The Great Spam people...

And no I'm not talking about the good folks over at Hormel!

Today as I am trying to get half a dozen things accomplished before noon I get 3 text messages on my cell phone telling me that I can get a great cell phone deal from my service provider for a loved one for the holidays, now only problem is this - text messages can only be 150 characters, the ad was 400 + so they had to send through 3 messages to get it through to me!
Now I'm not going to complain too much here, just a small rant so here goes <rant> Why is it that marketing companies feel the need to bother me everywhere I go? When I go to best buy they want my phone number and address so that I can buy their merchandise! Why... I ask? Well the computer makes us put it in... HORSE*$@t! It's so that you can send me junk in the mail!

I can't complain much about Gmail however, they do a great job of sending crap right where it belongs (in the spam box!) But home phone calls by telemarketers while I'm on the phone with a client / colleague is very annoying! *my favorite is Jerry Seinfields line - "I'm a little busy right now... tell ya what give me your home phone number and I'll call you later."

For those of you in the US here's some helpful info...

Now that they have made it legal to call your cell phone I can see a huge uproar! My plan is good because it's constant $65 per month Unlimited everything (so no surprises... well except of course that they are SPAMMING ME NOW!) But what about those of you that pay for incoming calls? Is that fair? Now you have to watch your minutes even closer because scum of the earth - errr I mean "telemarketers" are calling you!

Another fun little trick is saying "oh someones at my door can you hang on?" then just set the phone down and walk away

The scary thing is a friend of mine that works at Microsoft told me about 7 yrs ago that t.v. commercials were going to be geared towards individual households based on buying preferences... Well 7 yrs ago I thought yeah what ever...

Now with Google getting into the TV market and keeping all of that information I can actually see "Relevant" commercials being beamed into my home and it quite frankly pi$$es me off! OK I feel better now </RANT>

What do ya'll think?
