Fabio your friends sounds smart I'd say AVG and get a decent firewall I use atguard (which is free) but it's more of a dashboard than anything... if I hit a site and see the system processes jump up then I back out of the site / download etc...
Anything that one man builds another can take down just as easily... it's sad but true!
