There were five in the past 20 years - and they were all women. Domineering, controlling b****es! When I think about them, it makes my blood boil.

The absolute worst of them had a bumper sticker on her car that said "My other car is a broom". So true, so true! I first encountered her when I worked as a substance abuse counselor at the men's prison in South Florida.

I watched her set up my good friend who was a minister on the outside/counselor on the inside of the prison. One of the nicest people I ever met. He was so kind he could not believe she could be so evil. She kept a yellow legal pad with every error she felt he made and brought it to one of the honchos. First, my friend was told not to worry about it and to go about his business. He thought it was all over and I told him not to trust her.

I told him this story: Once upon a time, a little girl was walking thru the woods to Grandma's house. It was freezing cold and she was wearing a heavy, warm coat. She came upon a snake who was almost frozen to death. The snake asked her to pick him up and put him close to her heart to warm him up.

She said she was afraid he would bite and kill her. He promised not to harm her. The kind little girl picked him up and held him close - and he, of course, bit her. As she was dying, she reminded him he had promised not to hurt her. And he responded:

'YOU KNEW I WAS A SNAKE WHEN YOU PICKED ME UP!'

Sure enough, this snake-woman kept tabs on my friend and finally got him fired. The honcho said he was disappointed with my friend in not being stronger. I refused to turn my back on my friend, helped him pack his things and walked with him out to the gate. He then reminded me of what I had told him earlier about the snake woman.

I of course was not very popular with her but I am a stand up person and will never reject a friend in trouble. Eventually, I left of my own accord but I ran into her again - which is another story.

It is rare that I have come face to face with pure evil but I feel she is such!

Having worked with a number of addicts-turned-counselors, I found that the druggie nature they had prior to getting "clean" never goes away and they bring that along with them. I was one of a very, very few counselors who had never been an addict.
