Adsense - Are you being targeted?

With the implentation of the Adsense banner at the top right corner of the page on TWT I've been reading up and learning a little more about Adsense. CTR is horrible on forums, I knew that when I placed the banner, but what I was looking for are banner ads that get displayed. The beauty about banner ads is that the payout is not through clickthroughs but by page impressions. The thing is that it takes thousands of impressions before you could make any serious money. I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

Google implemented Site Targeting a while ago for Adsense publishers and Adwords advertisers. What this does is permits potential advertisers to be able to advertise on your site exclusively. If you look at the Adsense banner you'll see that it says advertise on this site. For this to happen an advertiser must have an Adwords account.

After a few days of having implemented the banner I started seeing some banner ads and I wondered if I was being Site Targeted. So, how do you find out if you have someone targeting your site. Follow these instructions to see:
  1. Click on Advanced Reports in your Adsense account.
  2. Find Show data by [?] and then click on the drop down menu and choose "Individual Ad Unit"
  3. Once you choose that a check box will appear and it will say "Show data by targeting type - contextual or site [?]" Click that.
  4. Then display the reports like you usually do and you'll see if you have ads that are running that are Site Targeted ads.
There will be information for both Contextual and Site statistics. You can also go further in the report by choosing Channel data and see you reports by channel.
