If you would like some help read this first.

Hello all,

Here is some helpful information to "help us" here "help you" with what you need. If you would like some help you may want to read this.

First and foremost remember you are requesting help from someone so be patient, people here have lives and jobs, just like you do.

Ask an intelligent question, give all the information we need to give you the help you need, I know that it is hard to take the time to write what feels like a book, but if you give all the information while asking you will get an intelligent response faster.

Here are a few points before you ask the question;
  • Try to search out the question on the web and in the forum, the question may have already been asked and answered, save you and us some time and typing. You may also get a Google result taking you to the forum page or fix file, so just give it a shot.
  • If there is a read me file, FAQ, or manual check it first.
  • Try to fix the problem yourself.
While asking your question here are a few things to consider;
  • When you post your question remember to include you have tried the above, this will let the people here know you are not just being lazy and wanting someone else to do your work for you, and they will be more likely to want to help you.
  • DO NOT treat the people trying to help you as if they are the hired help, because they are not, you are not paying them, you are asking for help, so you are on their time, not yours.
  • Make sure to post in the right forum, if you post it in the lounge or other non-relevant forum some people will not even respond to you because it is in the wrong place, some will not even notice it because it is not in the help forum.
Here is an example of a question:

STUPID!
Title: help!!!!!!! (Or worse yet no title)

Help!!!! Video does not work!!!!

SMART!
Title: Problem loading windows media file on web site (this will help later if someone else is searching for it)

Hello, while trying to load a video on my site I encountered an error (see below)

This is where you copy and pasted your error
=====================================
beginning error
Ending error
=======================================

I have tried to fix this error by trying to check the window media player FAQ, support docs, sent in a trouble ticket with my hosting provider to make sure I have the correct server package to support what I am trying to do, and searched the web for addition resources but I am unable to fix it.

I am using smartFTP to upload it to my Unix server it shows that the files have been transferred and I have check the code in the page and it appears to be correct (see below)

This is where you copy and past the code of your page that is on error
=====================================
beginning error
Ending error
=======================================

Has anyone encountered the same problem that could help me figure this out or would one of the experts here be able to take a look at this and provide me with some guidance?

Feel free to contact me via the forum, [email protected] , or by phone 614-123-456-7890

Thank you in advance,

By telling us all of what you have done to try and fix it we will not tell you to try those things, we will be able to move on and offer other advice that may speed up the process, as well it helps keep a cleaner forum instead of having posts like;

Did you try to do a Google search?
Posters name

Yes I tried that already
Your posting name

And more of the like posting it will flow better and it will make it easier for other that may be searching for the same problem, and don’t forget to use a title wait I should say an intelligent title like what you searched for when you were looking for the answer.
Well I think this is a good start, some of the other smarter folks here can add on other things that may need added.
